Summary: The English language is an essential tool for international communication, and learning it as a second language has become a necessity for many individuals worldwide. In the case of Ecuador, the government has recognized the importance of English as a foreign language and has made it compulsory for students to learn it as a part of the school curriculum. However, the process of teaching and learning English as a foreign language is not always straightforward, and various factors can influence its effectiveness. The success of the process depends on several factors, including the quality of teaching, the student´s motivation, and the learning environment. This research aimed to analyze the students? perceptions regarding the English teaching and learning process in the eighth year of Unidad Educativa ``Poaló-García Moreno´ during the academic year 2022-2023, which is located in the rural area of San José de Poaló parish in Latacunga city in Ecuador. The study used a quantitative methodology with a descriptive approach, and data was collected through a survey applied to twenty-one students in the eighth year of General Basic Education. The results of the study showed that most of the students want to be part of the activities made by the teacher and ask him questions. Also, it is demonstrated that students find activities like pair works, role-play, and dramatization attractive for their English language learning, and most of them find these interactive activities useful for their English language learning. Finally, the majority of them established that they agree to do activities with their classmates.
